Interested in Joining Us?
Are you interested in joining us? The Corps is always looking for new members. Here is what we are looking for:
- Be elementary, middle, or high school age (ages 10-18).
- Live in the Saint Louis metropolitan area, and attend regular rehearsals (Monday evenings, year round) in Saint Charles.
- Devote time to learn the music and performance drills of the Corps.
- The ability to read music is preferred but not required. Music lessons for fife or drum, and instructions for color guard/musket are provided with our incredible instructors, during weekly practice.
- Commit to attending the performances and events of the Corps.
- Have fun traveling and performing with the Corps.
- Pay a one-time $30 (thirty dollars) fee per family.
The recruitment period, which varies in length based on ability, consists of learning the basics of the instruments and progresses through the memorization and mastery of fundamentals and then approximately 10-12 Level 1 songs. Additionally, the marching calls and footwork is learned and passed. Once mastered and tested, membership is granted and uniform/equipment is issued.
Uniforms – Uniforms are provided at no cost and remain the property of the corps. The exception to this is the white shirt worn and a pair of black shoes. Drums, Flags, and Muskets are owned and provided by the Corps. Fifes, however, are purchased from the Corps. New recruits are offered an inexpensive, plastic practice fife for purchase, however the wooden fifes are sold to the students as part of full membership.
Travel – The Corps travels throughout the year to historical reenactments, military functions, patriotic events, and local events. Most travel expenses are covered by the Corps, and in some circumstances you can ride with other families.
If further musical instruction is needed, private lessons can be arranged outside of the regular Corps rehearsals (and on your own expense). This is extremely rare based on usual activity. For instance, many of our drummers also play drum at school, and some of our fifers play flute at school, making it an easier transition.
