Congratulations to our newest Member of the Lewis and Clark Fife and Drum Corps! You have worked hard to achieve this honor, and we are very proud of you! Your uniform pieces are borrowed from the Corps. The coat, waistcoat, and Foraging Cap are NOT machine washable—dry clean only. Ask the Quartermaster any questions.

  • Whites:

    • Camisole/undershirt/insulated underwear, depending on the season.

    • A white, 18th century men’s work shirt (SH-124 from www.townsends.us: all Members must purchase—you do not have to return this to the Corps)

    • Neck Stock: Turn up the work shirt collar and put on the stock, tied in the back. Fold down the collar over it.

    • White canvas fall-front trousers

    • Black canvas Gaiters—don’t unbutton them each time! Just pull them on before you put your shoes on; it’s much easier.

    • Black socks and shoes—boys style dress shoes or marching band shoes (your own)

    • White wool waistcoat/weskit/vest (DRY CLEAN ONLY)

    • White cotton gloves (Color Guard only)—Guard Members purchase and keep these.

  • Coat (DRY CLEAN ONLY):

    • Is fairly simple—there are three hooks and eyes in the front to keep it closed.

    • Leave the epaulets unbuttoned until your accoutrements are on.

  • Accoutrements:

    • Haversack first, then canteen on the left shoulder

    • Fife case/Drum strap on the right shoulder (both shoulders for Bass drum)

    • Color Guard: Flag holder over the head, ammo case on the right shoulder (rifles only)

  • Hat (DRY CLEAN ONLY):

    • The beaver felt Carriage Hat with bear fur, deer tail, and black leather cockade with a pewter eagle in the center, which signifies Infantry. Keep it in a box, large enough so the entire brim lays flat and does not crush the fur and deer tail, when you are not wearing it. (You may use an actual hat box or any shipping box large enough to fit--14 x 14 inches usually fits, but hats vary in size. Find one that fits your hat completely).

    • The deer tail should be on the wearer’s LEFT side.

    • In inclement weather, the wool Foraging Cap/Fatigue Cap (DRY CLEAN ONLY) will be worn instead. Always keep it in your haversack.
